Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to wait 16 weeks before having a session?

  • Unless you were coming to my classes before you were pregnant, it's difficult for me to ascertain your range of movement as the hormone Relaxin can alter this. Also carrying our a new exercise routine whilst coping with all the changes happening in your body, in the first 16 weeks, can sometimes be setting you up for failure, as it might feel you are taking on too much. After 16 weeks the placenta is fully formed and your body is settling in to the changes, so this is an ideal time to consider having a weekly session.

Do I have to commit to weekly sessions?

  • No! In fact most of my 121 clients come every other week and I give them homework to practice between sessions. Only want to come once a month? That is fine! Just expect more homework! Studies show that women who undertook regular exercise during pregnancy had a positive impact on a Mum to be and caused no risk to the foetus or birth outcome. (Rankin 2002)

Are there any contraindications undertaking Pilates whilst pregnant?

  • None officially, so the guidelines to aerobic exercise are the ones I apply.

What are they?

  • There are quite a few - and all that you would expect, ie risk to those who have previous miscarriage history, heavy smokers, those with poorly controlled Type 1 diabetes, those carrying more than one embryo, those with severe anaemia, for example, but email me and we can arrange a chat.

If I have been coming to your classes before I was pregnant, do I still have to wait 16 weeks?

  • Not for 121's with me but to return to your normal class, you need to wait because although I keep my class sizes small and will design your modifications within the class, I'd feel happier that you wait until your pregnancy is established, to attend a bigger class.

Do I need any special equipment to do the pregnancy 121's with you?

  • No! I have all the equipment you will need, including pillows, bolsters, bands, hand weights, sitfits etc!

How much is a 121 Session?

  • Sessions are £45 an hour payable in advance (please note, cancellation of less than 24 hours requires full payment of session and not eligible for refund.)
